Dr. Jeffery J. Machat

Dr. Machat is a world renowned Ophthalmologist and has performed more than 52,000 laser vision procedures to date, including LASIK and PRK.

He is a member of many affiliated bodies and societies such as currently pioneering a new presbyopic treatment to eliminate the need for reading glasses. He is a member of many academic and professional affiliations such as the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Canadian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Canadian born and bred, he graduated from the University of Toronto as a Doctor of Medicine in 1986 before progressing and graduating in ophthalmology in 1990. He proceeded to travel around the world, visiting Germany, Italy and South America, learning more about PRK and LASIK procedures. In 1991 he began to specialize in excimer laser refractive surgery and is one of the first Ophthalmologists in North America to perform laser vision correction and the first Ophthalmic Surgeon to perform LASIK and Custom LASIK procedures in Canada.

In 1993, Dr. Machat co-founded TLCVision, one of the largest laser vision correction providers in the world. Since becoming public in 1996, the company he created is today affiliated with over 2000 surgeons, over 12,000 Optometrists and more than 80 facilities and has performed in excess of 1.4 million laser procedures.

Dr. Machat lectures extensively worldwide, has written textbooks on laser refractive surgery and is the author of numerous scientific papers and book chapters. He has continued to promote the development of laser software and multiple instruments for PRK and LASIK as well as aiding in the development of laser technology.

Experience

Dr. Machat has experience with multiple laser manufacturers and has used multiple models including Summit Excimed, VISX 20/20B, STAR, S2, S3 and S4, Technolas 116,117,217C, 217Z, Nidek EC5000, LaserSight LSX and AstraScan, Autonomous LadarVision 2000 and 4000 and the Wavelight Allegretto Wave laser.
Dr. Machat has experience with multiple microkeratomes including the Chiron ACS, Bausch & Lomb Hansatome, LaserSight UniShaper and UltraShaper, Moira One disposable, C-B Microkeratome and M2 units, Alcon-Summit SKBM and the Allergan Amadeus.
Dr. Machat has been using the IntraLase Femtosecond laser for flap creation since March 1993.
Dr. Machat is a pioneer in Wavefront Technology utilizing Hartmann-Shack, Tscherning and Ray Tracing technology. He has performed over 10,000 Custom LASIK procedures to date with Bausch & Lomb Zyoptix, the Wavelight Allegretto Wave laser, the Autonomous LadarWave system and the Visx S4 CustomVue system.
He has also performed cases with topographically linked systems including Technolas Topolink, LaserSight CIPTA and VISX C-CAP.
